This often fasciculate dry species is a saturated red-brown colour. Cap diam: to 85 mm. The gills are greyish white, becoming rusty. The stipe is quite robust, cylindrical to tapering, and coloured yellowish to brown-yellow. Thin brown girdles may be present. Under beech.
