Macromitrium longipes
This species is common on tree trunks where it can form large clumps.
It is very easy to identify if the calyptra (capsule hood) is present.

This looks like a smaller version of M. longipes, but the seta is shorter.
Macromitrium gracile
Thought to be the most common species of Macromitrium in the North Island.
