Sarcodon thwaitesii - a toothed fungus

I almost didn't see this toadstool, with it being black and growing amongst rotting twigs and leaves. It was only when I had put my pack down and was getting ready to photograph something else that I noticed it. It looked plain and ordinary until I turned it over, and saw all the teeth!

A little further down the track I spotted another one. To find two in one day, when I had never seen any before was a real bonus, I thought. And that was in early summer.
